Revolutionising Cardiac Care: The Introduction of SavvyWire in TAVR Procedures

feed News and More

On August 28, 2024, we proudly witnessed a groundbreaking moment in cardiac care as Dr. Kristopher J. Selke, DO, FACC, FSCAI, an interventional cardiologist and medical director of the ABMC Structural Heart Program, became the first in our region and the second in the state to implement the innovative SavvyWire for transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR).

The SavvyWire represents a significant advancement in the TAVR procedure by replacing traditional guide wires with a multifunctional device that simplifies and enhances the entire process. This state-of-the-art tool combines three key functionalities: deploying the replacement valve, monitoring heart pressures, and serving as a pacing wire when necessary.

Advantages of SavvyWire

The introduction of SavvyWire brings numerous benefits, setting a new standard in cardiac interventions. Here are the highlights:

  1. Reduces Devices:
  • Replaces traditional TAVR guidewire
  • Eliminates the need for one transducer
  • Contains venous access kit, RV pacing wire, and closure device within one system
  1. Supports Case Efficiency:
  • Significantly reduces transducer setup time
  • Eliminates the need for multiple venous accesses and device exchanges
  • Minimises retrieval and exchanges for pressure readings
  1. Enhances Procedural Predictability:
  • Provides continuous, accurate measurements of hemodynamic pressure
  • Minimises complications related to right ventricular pacing

We are thrilled to be at the forefront of such advanced cardiac care, ensuring our patients benefit from innovative technologies that contribute to safer and more efficient procedures.
